September 3-4
This is one of our favorite weekends...of course all our piping weekends are our favorites. Many of us camp with friends and family and make a whole weekend out of it. The Ellensburg Parade is fun, but we truly shine later when we play several shows at the Frontier Tavern and the Tav. We have lots of cowboy groupies that meet us there and things get pretty wild. What happens in Ellensburg stays in Ellensburg...
Sunday is fun as well...we participate in the Roslyn Parade. Remember Northern Exposure? That's where it is! Although it's quick, it's a lot of fun.
August 20
Although it's a short one, the Snoqualmie Railroad Days Parade is a good one - well attended. Our post-parade stage performance lasted over 45 minutes this year and there were several exhausted pipers and drummers standing in the hot sun. There was never a better time for a cold one than today. We migrated to Rob and Carol MacGregor's afterward for a top quality BBQ. What a great day!
August 13
We were honored to participate in the Astoria Regatta Parade this year! If you've been to Astoria, you know how fun it can be. After the parade, we played a few sets in a brew pub, around some vendor's tents, and were eventually pulled into the local VFW to play. It was very cool! True to our nature, we ended up back at the brew pub, of course, and had a few tunes with our friends, the Clan Macleay Pipe Band from Portland. Later that evening, a lone piper from our band could be heard playing on a dock as the sailboats passed by.
We are also happy to have piper Rob MacGregor back with our band!
July 26-28
Another great Seattle Scottish Highland Games comes to an end! The Gordons played a show on Friday night and opening and closing ceremonies throughout the weekend. On Saturday, our quartet (Ken, Grant, John, & Brad) took first place again this year in grade 4. Also, our competition band placed 5th overall (our pipe section was ranked 3rd by one judge!) in the Quick March Medley. Saturday night was our big band potluck and was a pirate theme. Check out our Facebook page for some photos! We were raided by the Clan MacAle pirates, but we came out on top...
We woke up on Sunday to some good old Scottich weather, which is usually referred to as "brightening". Sunday was our last medley competition of the year (at last!). We placed 5th in this event as well. The competition is fierce in Seattle and we are up against three kids bands, including RMM4 and Portland Metro Youth, and a super adult band, the Keith Highlanders. Considering who we were up against, we were very proud of our performance!
July 7
We're world famous! We accompanied Lion's Club members from Australia during the International Lion's Club Convention in Seattle July 5th and again on July 7th. On July 5th, we participated in Seattle's largest parade to date. Seeing people from all around the world was a memorable experience. Right now, there are people all around the world with photos of us on their wall - we spent a lot of time posing! On July 7th, we played in Key arena during the Lion's Club elections and represented the Australians with "The Road to Gundagai" and "Waltzing Matilda". Once again, we were a hit.
June 25
The Clan Gordon Pipe Band represented itself proudly at the Tacom Higland Games again this year. The Gordons tied for first place with the Washington Scottish in the Pipe Band Competition. The Gordons scored 1st in piping and 2nd in drumming. The tie went to the Washington Scottish, however, since the Gordons scored second in emsemble, which is the tie-breaker.
Our quartet took 1st place again this year. Congratulations to Grant Baker, Ken Morhouse, John Vance, and Brad Collins for representing the band.
June 18
Another year at the Stawberry Festival Parade in Marysville. We did a lot of standing around before the parade, since we were number 79 in the lineup. We won the award for best pipe band, though. First place out of one...It was a late night since the parade doesn't start until nearly 7:30pm. We, of course, had fun.
May 7
After a good breakfast in Cle Elum, we met in Wenatchee for the Apple Blossom Parade. The weather started out pretty well, although some dark clouds loomed on the horizon. The Wenatchee Parade is long, some say 1.5 miles, but we sounded good and held out until the end. Right as we fell out, the clouds took aimed and dumped for a good hour. All of the participants and spectators were drenched within minutes. We made it back the the American Legion hall, dried out a bit and played a few sets for them. Another long day for the Gordons, but we had a great time as always. We rarely fail to have fun.
April 18
Fifty-four years ago this month (April 1957) saw the Clan Gordon Pipe Band's first paid performance! The band performed at the grand opening of Manley's Grocery in Fircrest and recieved $25.
April 9
Wow! What a day...The Grand Daffodil Parade is one of the longest parades in the US and includes four cities; Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, and Orting, although we do not march in Orting. The weather held out well and we managed to stay dry. After the parade, we all convened at Larry Morey's home for the band potluck. Click here to see TV coverage of us in the big parade.
April 2
The Clan Gordon Pipe Band marched in the Junior Daffodil Parade, also known as the Kid's Parade in the Proctor District of Tacoma. We are all basically kids at heart, so we fit right in. Afterwards, we had a short performance at the Daffodil Float dedication ceremony. No injuries were reported and no one was yelled at by passers-by. Click here to see TV footage of the Jr. Parade. We are at the beginning of the parade.
March 26
The 48th annual Tartan Ball was a success. The highland dancers from Leanore Curran's school were fantastic as were the Clan Macleay Pipe Band and the Kieth Highlanders. The Gordons sounded great and recieved nothing but high praise for our show. We hope to have photos and video clips up on the website soon. Check out our Facebook page as well for some good videos and comments.
The Tartan Ball also saw the return of two pipers and one drummer that had been inactive for a few years. We welcome back pipers Grant Baker, Mike Bigelow, and side drummer Randy White. We are glad to have you!
March 17
Part of the band played at Wayne's Inn in Puyallup, while others played at The Sports Page in Auburn. We played to a lively crowd at both places and had a great evening. We even dusted off some of the old Irish tunes! We welcome Nancy Campbell as a new tenor drummer. She played her first gig with the Gordons at Wayne's Inn.
March 13
The Clan Gordon Pipe Band spent a very long, exciting day at Ozzie's Pub in Seattle performing for the participants of the Saint Patrick's Day Dash. The place was packed and everyone had a blast.
March 11
The band kicked off the coronation for the 2011 Daffodil Festival Queen. Congratulations to Claire Flemming of Curtis HS for being selected this year. We'll see you at the parade!
